Social Studies

The Social Studies Department at Bangor Area High School is dedicated to fostering critical thinking, civic responsibility, and a deeper understanding of both U.S. and global societies. Through a diverse curriculum rooted in Social Studies and the Social Sciences—including history, geography, economics, political science, and sociology—students are encouraged to analyze complex issues, evaluate multiple perspectives, and make informed decisions. Ranging from College Prep, Honors and Advanced Placement, our courses explore the historical and contemporary forces shaping the United States and the world, helping students become thoughtful, engaged citizens in a global society. With a strong emphasis on inquiry, discussion, and evidence-based reasoning, the department prepares students to navigate and contribute meaningfully to an ever-changing world.
